Finding employees for your construction company seems to be one of “toughest” problems contractors face….
But why are other company’s able to continually find employees and grow their company?
Now you might be in different stages in your business looking for different types of employees.
One contractor may be stuck in the field looking for a foreman that has the ability to keep jobs going while they the owner are not onsite. Allowing them to make sales and grow the company.
As for another contractor is looking for laborers to increase their production capacity and complete more jobs…
From talking to contractors around the country here are some ways they are able to continually find employees.
- contractors take advantage of using sites like indeed to find peopke looking for work. In some areas of the country this is all they need to do to find qualified workers who have experience.
- Being where employees go. Meaning hitting gas stations, common lunch places, etc and asking people who look like they work in construction if they know of anyone looking for work. Tell them the about the pay and the job opportunity. So they can “let people know” you aren’t directly asking them if they are looking for work but who knows maybe your offer is better than where they are currently working.
- Using your other employees to find people. What we mean by this is if you create a great place to work, that pays well, has opportunities for employees to grow in your company and you actually care about your employees. Your employees will be bragging about their job and other people will find out about your company. Plus if they know there is a job opening then they can directly reach out to people they know who would be a good fit for the crew.
Some contractors can never get past this problem while others are able to grow their company whenever they need to. It takes a little bit of work, getting out there and meeting new people to find new employees. Hopefully this helps you and your company.
